Great Granddaughters Help Raise American and Navy Flags at Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28. Also Grandsons Army S/Sgt. and Firefighter were presented with The American Legion Post #28 Challenge coins from Adam Shumaker & Nathan Van Kampen. We will all miss you Larry.

John has donated his time and talent to We Honor Vets since our inaugural ceremony in Grand Haven.
Flyin' Heroes - American Legion Michigan Post 28 Fly Fishing Project
Flyin' Heroes is a program that utilizes the sport of fly fishing to promote therapeutic growth and rehabilitation of U.S. military veterans. The goal of Flyin' Heroes is to create memorable fly fishing experiences that unlock the healing power of the water and foster lasting relationships.
Participants of Flyin' Heroes will experience a unique guided float trip down the Pere Marquette River, Muskegon River and or the White River located in West Michigan. Each participant will be instructed on the basic techniques of fly and/or spinner fishing for trout and other game species. The fishing trips will range from 4-6 hours long and will incorporate a streamside prepared lunch provided.
Flyin' Heroes is a Michigan non-profit organization that is funded through donations. Charles A. Conklin Memorial Program on May 7, 2011
Commander MacKellar and members from the Honor Guard and guests took part in a Memorial Program to Honor Charles A. Conklin the namesake of the American Legion Post #28 of Grand Haven.
93 years ago on May 7, 1918 Charles A. Conklin died 4 days after he was wounded in France. He was a 1914 graduate from Grand Haven. Charles A. Conklin was the first to give the Supreme Sacrifice from Grand Haven to die during WWI. The "War to end all Wars".
